Camping gives children a chance to let their hair down!

Camping is good for kids

scouts camping Camping gives children a chance to let their hair down!I came across this article in The Times called the Britain’s best family campsites, where Clover Stroud, author of Cool Camping: Kids, explains why a night under canvas is good for all.

She explains “…in an era of increasingly paranoid parenting, camping also gives children a real chance to let their hair down. While you puzzle over the Mensa challenge of constructing your eight-man tent, with a porch and a separate living area, your children will probably have joined a gang of on-site kids, building dens or playing football. It’s the perfect antidote to screen addiction and Sats anxiety.”

I agree with Clover 100%, camping is excellent for kids!

I think that in a world where children’s activities are structured, organised and planned there is nothing like the freedom of camping to provide an opportunity to run free, explore and play. It is the perfect antidote to the over supervised, adult intensive lives our children inhabit.

Our fears about stranger danger and busy traffic often mean we deter our children from playing outdoors but there are many benefits, especially increased confidence when making friends and playing as part of a large group. Camping offers children an opportunity to do this and more, if you haven’t tried it I can wholeheartedly recommend it! Why not check out Clovers top camp sites and see if your family is ready to walk on the wild side?

I agree 100%. It seems like camping was so much more common 20 or 30 years ago. I hope that it makes a comeback. It gave me, as a kid, such appreciation for the simple beauty of things and how nature can be a lot of fun. It also helped to teach me self-reliance.
